POLICE in Chingola have arrested a 19-year-old pupil of Mambili Primary School for allegedly murdering a fellow pupil over a girlfriend.
Copperbelt police commissioner Joyce Kasosa said in an interview in Ndola that the incident happened on Friday around 06:00 hours.
Ms Kasosa named the deceased as Francis Kalima, 17, of Mambili Zone, Muchinshi rural health centre.
“Francis Kalima, 17, died after he fought with Justine Mwanabute, aged 19. The deceased sustained a swollen left eye, bled from the nose and mouth. The pupils, of Mambili Primary School, fought over a girlfriend,” she said.
Kalima’s body is in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Meanwhile, MUBANGA NONDO reports from Ndola that police have arrested a 15-year-old minor of Kawama Township for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl of the same township.
Ms Kasosa said the incident occurred on Thursday around 16:00 hours at the victim’s parents’ house.
“The victim was alone at home when she decided to go and answer the call of nature. The suspect noticed that the girl had entered the toilet and he followed her and defiled her,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said the parents were reportedly not at home at the time of the incident.
Ms Kasosa said the juvenile is currently detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.
