Parmalat unveils K5 billion milk powder plant

Parmalat Zambia Limited has commissioned a new five billion kwacha milk powder plant at its Mungwi road premises in Lusaka.

Speaking during the commissioning of the plant in Lusaka today Parmalat Zambia Managing Director Mike Mallet says the investment in the new milk powder plant will see the company grow its business and help create jobs for Zambians.

Mr. Mallet explains that the decision to set up the milk powder factory plant is aimed at producing for the region under bonded facility for exports.

He says this will include the production of milk powdered sachets with identified markets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and Mozambique.

Mr Mallet has since commended government for creating a conducive business environment for investors in the country which has enabled his company to operate effectively.

Mr Mallet adds that Parmalat is keen to support Zambian farmers grow their businesses.

And speaking when he commissioned the new plant, Commerce, Trade and Industry deputy Minister Miles Samapa has commended Parmalat for the initiative which he says will help in creating jobs and boost the country’s economy.

Mr. Sampa notes that there is no economy in the world that has developed without the full participation of the private sector.

He adds that a viable and well functioning private sector operating in a competitive environment will drive the country’s economy to greater heights.
