One dies two others injured in RTA in Nchelenge District
Nchelenge, June 29th, 2014, ZANIS —- A 30 year old man has died in a fatal road traffic accident and two others have been injured and hospitalised in Nchelenge District of Luapula Province.
Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Malcolm Mulenga identified the deceased as Manice Mwansa of the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) at the Saint Paul’s Mission Hospital.
Mr Mulenga said Mwansa died on the spot and that his body is laying at the Saint Paul’s Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting for post-mortem before burial.
He said the accident involving a Toyota Prado Land cruizer registration number ALB 9900 occurred at about 19 hours at Mangamu village about 30 kilo metres from Nchelenge Boma after one of the rear tyres burst.
He explained that the vehicle flipped several times before it rested facing where it was coming from and that it has been damaged beyond repair.
The Police Chief said the owner of the vehicle who was also the driver Mathews Mubita 38 of the Office of the President (OOP) in Nchelenge suffered a deep cut on the head.
He said Mubita who is already on the record of causing death by dangerous driving was rushed and admitted at the Mberenshi Mission Hospital in Kawambwa District.
He identified the other victim as the 32 year old Samuel Kakuwa who also sustained a deep cut on the head and a suspected fractured leg.
He disclosed that Kakuwa has been hospitalised at the Saint Paul’s Mission Hospital in Nchelenge.
He observed that this is the second time within a period of two months that the intelligence officer has been involved in a fatal road traffic accident.
He said about a month and some weeks ago Mubita bashed and killed a 13 year old girl of Cowen Teacher’s Compound at the Nchelenge Secondary School due to alleged over speeding.
Mr Mulenga indicated that the owner of the vehicle who was also the driver at the time of the accident will be charged accordingly and will appear in court soon.
He also said Prince Ng’andu of the Office of the President (OOP) at the Nchelenge Office and the Akatutwa Bar and Restaurant proprietor George Polombwe escaped with minor bruises from the same accident.
